This blows my mind!!!

So, I know that we use this blog for the lighter matters in our lives, but this article has turned my world upside down. It's HUGE. The headline reads, "Experts Say Positive People on Effective HIV Meds Aren’t Sexually Infectious." In short, the Swiss Federal Commission has issued an official statement that says people whose HIV has been undetectable for six months because of antiviral medication cannot infect their partners during sex. Of course, it's more complicated than that, which you can see from the article, especially in terms of what they are NOT recommending for treatment and prevention.

I'll share some of my thoughts as replies.

My Morning Routine... Such That It Is

Nothing makes me happier in the morning (caveat: after I've gotten out of bed, if you know what I mean) to find that the coffee I'm going to drink is in my favorite mug. "what mug is that?" I hear you asking. Why, it's the Fuc Ewe Mug!!!!!! Here is the song that I sing (you may not be surprised to know that it has multiple variations):

The Fuc Ewe Mug
The Fuc Ewe Mug
Everybody's snug
In the Fuc Ewe Mug! (repeat)

Maybe sometime soon I'll post an audio of me actually singing it, but Griff can attest to it's frequency. Thanks be to Sharon (G's mom) who inexplicably bought him this mug years ago.

Old Man Makes Me Dinner:

I post this pic so you can see what has befallen my love-monkey. He's aged quite rapidly, so when he comes up next week, for those that will see him, please don't comment or be surprised. He's still got a few pubes that haven't grayed. And he makes a mean rice crispy treat.

CC:Toes

So, shoot me if you are sick of me sharing the gory details of cube life, but I just can't resist because the shit I hear behind this wall cracks me up!
This morning it is my neighbor with the legs talking about how she can suck her own toes (if she were the yoga type this might not seem remarkable, but she doesn't quite fit that description).
I searched yahoo images for 'sucking toes' but got the warning that I might see 'adult images,' so consider yourself spared from graphic details.

Gotta love the chatter at the state HEALTH department!!!

Snow

It snowed in Atlanta this afternoon . . . actually, it was more like snow flurries. However, people are freaking out. Around 5PM when it started "snowing" there were people chatting in the hallway of my office about how bad it was and how concerned they were about getting home. I received at least a dozen emails/calls from students (I teach M/W at 5:30 & 7:15p) asking if class was canceled. The RE: line in one email read: Blizzard....do we have class? Less than half of the students showed up during my 5:30 class. I'm guessing I'll have fewer attend my 7:15 class.

Seriously, it's not bad here. It's not really even snowing. The wind is blowing around the little bit of snow that is kinda falling. These people are crazy.

In their defense though, I guess this is the first time it has snowed in years, and the city does not have salt trucks and other equipment to deal with snow.

India Adventures

Scotty returned from India yesterday. He was travelling with a team of 10 dentists from NYU to do some work with children in a rural part of India, Bhuj (the epicenter of a destructive 8.9 earthquake a few years ago). Scott spent the first night in Mumbai and then travelled to Bhuj on a tiny airplane. The team set up in a school and worked with about 2000 kids. We were only able to communicate twice with a 2 minute phone call over the 2 weeks. No e-mail. It was tough but thanks to Chad and Griff for keeping me company. Here are some of my favorite pics from his adventure.

At a market in Mumbai, Scott gave in to the temptation to try this freshly squeezed sugar cane juice. Big mistake. Two words: Mumbai Squirts!

Difficult to see, but this was the *hotel* he stayed at on the first night in Mumbai.

The lobby of the hotel. Scott woke up too late and missed the continental breakfast.

The welcome ceremony at the school in Bhuj. Everyone was carrying the supplies in and all the school children lined up on both sides to welcome the team.

See the video to hear the Hindu song played over loud speaker every morning at 7:15 across the town. Bhuj is located in Kutch, an extremely conservative, vegetarian, dry, religous state. Scotty said there were speakers everywhere.

One of Scott's favorite patients that touched his heart and makes him smile. It is not customary to give any type of anesthetic as there is a huge fear of needles among the people here and many pass out just on the site of a needle. Scott said he had to drill and fill 6 deep cavaties on this little one and she didn't flinch once and always had a huge smile on her face. Unbelievable.

Visiting a farm in a nearby village, Scott asked if he could join in the family portrait but was rudely denied the privilige.
Every day on the walk to the school where the dental clinic was set up, Scott passed a huge yard where boats were in different stages of being built. The area is close to the Indian ocean..but still, how in the world do they get this to the water???

Scotty loved taking "bucket showers" all week.

But not as much as he loved giving his thighs a good work out every morning and night to take care of business.

Cube Chronicles:Tattoo

Oh my god, now she is talking about how her friend was getting a tattoo and that there are "reasons" people get them, though "I wouldn't do it," but that there are some interesting ones out there. Wonder if this one would qualify as "interesting?"

Will someone please rescue me from this creative blackhole?

Cube Chronicles:Blubber

I wish I could share with all of you how joyous it is to listen to my cube neighbor talk about how fat her legs are and how wearing heels isn't going to help.

Maybe if she took off her Christmas sweater, she would feel better.

Dharma New Year

Not sure how we ended up here, but at about 11 am, after a long night of partying, we found ourselves celebrating new years with a bunch of Tibetan monks at the Dharma Center. Julie and Becky passed out, but as you can see, Christie and I were still going strong.

happy the hippity

Here's a visual rundown of our times on the eve of 2008. We decided to take the Marta so that no driving. it was packed but kinda fun. Diana was trying to look tough to scare off bad folks:

After we got to the bar (Mary's) many drinks were consumed (jaeger is a good friend). Griff and Diana celebrated in style
and g and i made a little whoopie and then Diana learned a new trick.

We took a cab back, but before we got home, Di had to take care of some business (see flickr).
We hung with the pups and tried to sober up a bit. I think Diana's last picture speaks volumes for how we felt at 4 a.m.

We miss you all tons, wish we had partied with y'all, and hope all had a fantastic time last night and made it home safely, and if you stayed home, you didn't break anything playing Wii. XOXOXOXO
