As I told Joyce, I keep rewinding every time I listen to this cd, I can not get past the first 4 tracks. 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' is my fav so far, particularly at 2:21 into the song.
This is some fine, fine interpretive work. I am so glad that Shelby didn't try to make a Dusty record. Instead, we have amazing songs re-imagined. The title track, "Just a Little Lovin'," just blows me away.
I really expected to hear more of the Memphis Strings that Shelby used on "I Am Shelby Lynne." (That's a great CD. Unfortunately, she followed it up with, "Love, Shelby," which was just terrible. The cover art isn't much better.) The Memphis sound is still there, however, mostly captured in the guitar work.
And by the way . . .Burt Bacharach is a god. For evidence of that, check out his pairing with Elvis Costello on "Painted From Memory." Randy Newman is a close second.
