Hobocamp

Amy Sedaris is fantastically funny. I mean, real, in the bones funny. And crazy cute. Like tiny, porcelain doll food. Cute. and funny. Here's what she wrote for Griff and I on our copy of "I Like You"

Have you seen this doll?

WARNING: According to AP reports, Hopscotch Heather has been spotted, apparently heading south from Ohio. Witnesses report that Heather was last seen around Kentucky, uttering a deranged rant about her fathers, who apparently abandoned the devil spawn and skipped town.
Heather always wears a pink outfit, and may or may not have the sign of the devil tattooed to her face. She tends to move slowly, as she is physically unable to walk without hopping.
If seen, do not approach. And don't forget to use both feet.

Chick

I'm just back from a visit with my aunt and uncle in my Southern Ohio, Appalachian birthplace: Portsmouth.
Going home means stories of my relatives from at least one hundred years back.
My grandfather was a mean drunk father of 9 who worked in a steel mill all of his life and beat his wife.
How ironic he was called 'Chick.'

from kathryn

Kathryn Schulz is my very good friend from Brooklyn, who spoke at our ceremony, and is writing a book, and just yesterday, sent me this:

Don't know if you've seen this yet, but it's San Diego Mayor Jerry

Sanders' 11th-hour conversion about gay marriage. I found it quite
amazing, and promptly wrote to thank him. I was particularly struck
by how very rarely we see signs of real emotional wrestling in
politics these days, which is very much in evidence in this case --
somewhat astonishingly so, I thought. (I was also struck the by the
potential political power of gay daughters. Mary Cheney, are you
listening?)

Please watch his
statement -- it's a pretty stunning clip. I emailed him too.

Joyce thinks . . . . about her sister.

So few people know I have a sister. With my glamorous Hollywood life, successful television career, and the release of Joyceful Living this fall, I have to remind people that there is wind beneath my wings.

Sharon DeWitt. My sister. My hero.

Are We There Yet?

This was a Sunday afternoon. I know, crazy! Thank Gawd for MARTA. She keeps me sane! (Chad and I were walking back to the Marta station, over I-75/85, after a stroll through IKEA)

You Do the Crime, You Do the Time!

Doodie looking cute, and completely over being trapped on the deck while her daddies mow the lawn.

Bare Walls Be Gone!

Chad and I made this little diddy tonight from a blown up image (Atlanta graffiti - not taken by us) and CD cases. Gee, thanks Ready Made!

Joyce thinks . . . .

Well, my friends, classes begin tomorrow. My walk home from campus was exciting . . . friends seeing each other after a long summer, freshmen exploring High Street for the first time, lines at the book stores, clubs and organizations on the oval. I love the first day of school.

But pay no nevermind to my thoughts of intellectualism and learning. My mind is a flutter with important news of the day.

Joyce thinks . . . .

1. Fox Network is evil.

I like you. I really like you.

2. I'm a Fanilow.

The only good thing about Elizabeth is that she's an idiot representing the conservative point of view. Keep talking, girl.

3. Men on a Mission.

I just don't know what to say about this. I guess I should get my doorbell fixed.

Lil G

My cousin, Dawn, recently sent me this picture of her and I as little ones. We were inseparable as kids, and often said we'd marry. Our parents encouraged our closeness but discouraged the nuptials, making the "deformed babies" argument. A few years after this picture was taken Dawn and her family moved to Arizona, which was the worst possible thing to happen to lil me at that time. I still remember playing in the back of my uncle Mark's decked out 70's style van (it even had paneling and a small sink) on the way to the airport, still not realizing what was about to happen, and crying my eyes out as Dawn boarded the plane.

But I couldn't quite get the toy I wanted so i was caught... not sure what that means, but at any rate, I woke up to this little scene (I don't have my camera by the bed, by the way... I had to go get it). Pretty precious. I miss everyone.

Not Available in the U.S.A.

While trotting across the European continent a few weeks back, I oft discovered new and exciting goods that simply aren't available back home. The crepe stands all over Paris were delightful. The coffee shops in Amsterdam were divine. The smart cars in London and Berlin were simply astonishing (and so, well, smart). But I must say, as a lady with discriminating taste to say the least, I was most disappointed to learn the French "pleasure chairs" are simply not available here in the U.S. , and simply too large to squeeze into my suitcase...

The return of Lady Di and her escort

Welcome back, chumlies! I'm so glad you had such a nice time in the Europe. Although I had hoped that you might find out that you were, in fact, royalty that had escaped during the war, I take it as some solace that you had such a pretty room in Amsterdam. Now, I wonder, when will Griff and I see you again? I'm praying for sooner, than later.

Screw IKEA!

We can make our own furniture. Griff and I were very industrious this past weekend and, inspired by Beth and Jane's copious Readymade magazines, we made this lovely mid-century coffee table from scratch. Bought the wood, cut the wood, assembled the pieces and painted it. Whachu all think?

We gots the interNETS... (and where the hell are you people?)

We are here. We have access. Now I haven't seen any activity on this thing in many a moon. Are you all gone? Do you feel too sad? Me, I'm depressed... yup, I am. Gots to start all over. Not looking good on the job front. Nope, it's not. So, right now I feel bummed that I have to begin all over again at age 35. That's freaky deaky. So start talking to us so I don't have to feel bummed.
