Kathryn Schulz is my very good friend from Brooklyn, who spoke at our ceremony, and is writing a book, and just yesterday, sent me this:
Don't know if you've seen this yet, but it's San Diego Mayor Jerry
Sanders' 11th-hour conversion about gay marriage. I found it quite
amazing, and promptly wrote to thank him. I was particularly struck
by how very rarely we see signs of real emotional wrestling in
politics these days, which is very much in evidence in this case --
somewhat astonishingly so, I thought. (I was also struck the by the
potential political power of gay daughters. Mary Cheney, are you
listening?)
Please watch his statement -- it's a pretty stunning clip. I emailed him too.
